About the Festival

The Rendille Food and Cultural Festival, organized by the Pastoralist Peoples Initiative (PPI), is a three-day event dedicated to celebrating and preserving the unique cultural heritage of the Rendille people. Held in Loglogo, Marsabit County, from August 23rd to 25th, 2024, the festival aims to showcase traditional songs, dances, foods, and ceremonies. It also provides a platform for cultural exchange, intergenerational learning, and discussions on climate change adaptation.

The festival offers a variety of activities designed to immerse attendees in Rendille culture. A cultural setup will display a Rendille manyatta, illustrating the structure of huts, clan knowledge, and spiritual traditions. The Rendille Camel Derby will highlight the traditional skill of camel riding, celebrating the cultural significance of these animals. Additionally, the festival aims to plant 1000 indigenous trees at the festival site, contributing to environmental conservation.
